Today we're featuring my cousin's darling little girl who has naturally curly hair. We did a very simple style that was great for church and showed off her pretty curls.

Last month, my amazing cousin Rachel came in from out of state to visit a bunch of our family. Sadly I was at a blogging conference and not around to get to visit with her and her darling family. She has the cutest little kiddos, and her oldest daughter is just a few months older than Bee. Say hello to little Miss. A.

Little Miss A. is just the cutest girl ever. She has the prettiest curly hair and since starting Kindergarten has had fun doing different hairstyles from our blog. Well, knowing they were coming to visit us, Miss A. wanted me to do her hair since she has so much fun seeing the girls on the blog. Well we managed to work things out that I’d be able to do Miss A’s hair just before church and before they headed out of town later that day. She was really excited for me to do a quick tutorial in her hair too! She’s such a cutie and I wish we’d have been able to spend more time together and do something even more fancy for her!

When she arrived her hair was dry so we had to prep it a bit so I didn’t hurt her curls. We sprayed it down nicely with our water bottle and combed it out with our big wide tooth comb. Then I put Garnier Fructis Curl Sculpting Gel. I forgot how yummy it smells!

Step 1 – Part out hair into little ponytails

I started in the middle and parted out a long rectangular section of hair & secured it with a rubber band. I parted out 2 more even sections of hair on the right side of her head and made little ponytails with them.

Step 2 – Repeat on the left side

You’ll have a total of 5 mini-ponytails when you are all done.

Step 3 – Divide middle ponytail in half

Step 4 – Combine ponytails

On the left side, join the 2 left ponytails and half of the middle ponytail. Secure with a rubber band.

Step 5 – Repeat on the right side

Step 6 – Join the ponytails in the middle back of the head

The last time I wrapped the rubber band around I left it as a loop and didn’t pull the ends all the way through.

Step 7 – Make a messy bun

Using our quick & easy messy bun technique, I used a few mini-bobby pins and anchored a few sections of hair to form a messy bun. Because there were just these 2 small sections of hair that had been joined together to make the messy bun, I didn’t plan on a huge messy bun in back. It was just enough to make it more than a simple lattice work of rubber bands.

FINISHED!

We added a cute little fluffy bow I’d made years back just underneath the bottom of the messy bun. It added the perfect amount of color against her pretty blonde curls.

Bee wanted in for one picture! It’s hard to believe that Miss A. is older than Bee. Keep in mind Bee is rather tall for her age! They play so cute together and were so sad they couldn’t spend more time together.

Thanks Miss A. for letting me do your hair.

We miss & love you & hope you’ll come visit again soon!

This pretty & romantic side swept look can be achieved with just some loose curls and a twist. Come see how we did it.

This style was something I sort of tried on a whim, just wanting some looser curls/waves. We didn’t want it to be too pristine, but also didn’t want it to be too messy. This is what we came up with!

Step 1 – Make a center part on top of the head

Step 2 – Curl the hair

We obviously used our Curlformers. (If you aren’t familiar with Curlformers, you can see all our posts about them HERE.) These are our long/extra wide ones. But because Goose has such long hair, we doubled up on each section and put 2 Curlformers on each. This is kind of our “cheater way” with her extra long hair. To see how we get 2 on each section of hair, you can read our old post HERE. As you can see in Picture B below, I didn’t want the curls right up on top of her head or to her scalp. I just worked my way around from ear to ear so the curls would be in the lower part of her hair.

Step 3 – Comb through curls

I just wanted these to be loose waves/curls so we combed most of the curl out. (I must add, that about killed me to do this! ) If I do this again, I think I’ll wait to comb them out until I’ve finished the style.

Step 4 – Twist the hair

Starting on the right side, I started a French twist. It’s the same technique I use in my bang twisting video. Start with 2 sections of hair and twist them, adding hair in as you twist. Stop twisting once you’ve just past the middle of the head. You want it to be just a bit off to the left of the neck.

Step 5 – Secure with bobby pins

You’ll want the hair on the left to fall back down and cover these bobby pins up, so don’t worry about how neat they look or how many you use to anchor the twist in place.

Step 6 – Fold the hair back

Now on the left side, above the ear, tuck a section back like you are “folding” it in toward the head. Anchor with a few bobby pins.

Step 6 -Drape another section of hair over

With a new section of hair right below the one you just folded back, drape it across all the hair that is side swept. Anchor it with a bobby pin just above where your twist stops. That section of hair should cascade down onto the right side of all the curls.

I pulled out a small section of hair on the right side of the twist to add an extra touch of “pretty” to the style!

FINSIHED!

Keep in mind, the hair that is down is meant to be worn over the shoulder, but just so you could see how it looked from behind, we took a few shots for you!

You could add a pretty headband or leave more curl in the ends to make this even dressier. Perfect for a dance or wedding.

Because things are always changing on the web, we want to keep you informed so you can stay in touch with us. Come see what new places you can find us besides here on our blog!

{source}

As things online are continually changing, that means, as a blogger, I too must change along with it. To be honest, I fight change sometimes, especially changes in technology! But change is good (usually) and I need to learn to embrace it better! My dad always told me that the only thing constant in life is change. So good or bad, it’s true. And because of that I guess that means we’ve got a little bit of blogging business to update you on! Don’t worry — nothing is really “changing” here on our blog … I’ve just had to change and I want to keep you informed!

That being said, depending on how you follow our blog, we just wanted to make sure you know about all “the options” out there for you. If you follow via Google Friend Connect – whether you get the most recent updates from blogs you follow on your Blogger dashboard or via Google Reader, you are probably aware that is all going bye-bye on July 1st. If not, you can read about it here. I’ve never really liked Google Reader but have always gotten my updates on my Blogger dashboard (even though I no longer use that platform!)

So what does that mean for you if you use Google Reader? Sadly, you’re going to have to find someplace else to get your blog feeds. I recommend Bloglovin’. I’ve only been using it for a short time but feel it’s pretty user friendly and I like how it “looks and feels!” You do have to “sign up” but it’s free and all your blogs you follow should automatically transfer over so that is awesome. So if you haven’t figured out what you’re going to do yet I’d love it if you “followed” me on Bloglovin’ by clicking the button below:

Feedly.com is another one from which you can get the most recent updates from your blogs you follow. I don’t have any experience with them, but it’s similar to Bloglovin’ from what I understand. But regardless of what you switch to, just know that it’s inevitable that Google Reader is going away and you’ll need to find a new “home!”

And these days I’ve got a love/hate relationship with Facebook. I realize the majority of our readers are on Facebook and they claim they didn’t change anything months ago — but I don’t quite believe that. I know there are so many of you that don’t get our updates on a regular basis. Frustrates me to no end. Of course, we love it if you follow us there too because it’s a great way to interact & be social – but depending on the day it just might be a bit less effective.

Because Facebook can’t be counted on 100% these days, we’ve “changed” and added a few other ways you can interact with us and get our updates. I realize not all of these are for everyone, but we want you to know where else you can find us! In case you don’t follow us on Facebook, head over to our page by clicking HERE so you can “like” us!

So besides being able to find us on Facebook and Bloglovin’ we caved & are now on Instagram. If you’ve got a smart phone you can find us at “babesinhairlandblog.” We’ve had some issues claiming our name – so for now make sure “blog” is tacked on the end of our name. We’re sharing pictures that you won’t always see on Facebook, so if you’re curious about what we’re up to during the day, you’ll want to be sure to follow us HERE!

Are you tired yet?! We are also on Google+ ….
Of course, we’ve been on Pinterest for quite a while now, so that should come as no surprise! If you aren’t on Pinterest yet and need an invite let us know. You can see all the other things we love besides hair if you follow us there. We’ve recently added several new boards so check them out! Go HERE to see tons of things we’ve pinned that aren’t about hair!

And last but not least, we’ve been on YouTube for years. We’ve got all our videos linked here on our blog up in our Video Tab, but you can just head straight to our channel by clicking HERE if you want.

Get your hair up off your neck for the summer with this cute style. Chunky knots give the appearance of thicker fuller hair making a pretty headband cascading across your head.

Ok, so these aren’t technically braids. But most everyone knows if you say “milkmaid” braids, they are pulled over the top of the head, right? Good! So we’ll go with that then! Knotting the hair instead of braiding for this style, gives the hair a thicker/fuller look I think.

The idea behind these is basically the same as our Milkmaid Braids we did years ago, but instead of braiding, you’re going to make knots or chains that go across the top of the head. This obviously was done with long hair, but if you are working with shorter hair, just start the knots up higher above the ear to allow them to at least touch in the middle.

Step 1 – Make a middle part all the way from front to back

Step 2 – Divide hair in half

Starting on the left side of the part, divide the hair in half to prepare to make a knot.

Step 3 – Tie a knot

This is basically like the beginning step of tying your shoe. Cross the right section of hair over the left, and pass the left section of hair through the hole and pull tight. (Or do just the opposite if that is more natural for you!)

Step 4 – Secure with a clip

This is optional, but I find it keeps things from coming undone until everything is secured at the end.

Step 5 – Make another knot

Again, pass the right section of hair over the left, and pass the left section of hair through the hole — but this time don’t pull it tight. You’ll be leaving it like a chain of knots. We did this with her hair dry and didn’t worry about loose hairs too much.

Continue down the hair until you reach the end.

Step 6 – Secure the end with a rubber band

We left the tail looped up in the rubber band. This helps when anchoring it later.

Step 7 – Repeat Steps 2-6 on the right side

Step 8 – Drape left braid over the head

Step 9 – Secure as needed with bobby pins

This is where that “loop” in the tail comes in handy. Plus you don’t have as many stray hairs spraying out all willy nilly!

Step 10 – Repeat Steps 8-9 on the right side

I brought the right braid over and placed it in front of the braid from the left side. If you want them to sit further back on the head, position them as you wish. Secure with bobby pins as needed. **Now you can remove those clips that were holding the starting knot in place! **

FINISHED!

If you're looking for more than just a braided bun, this updo is for you! Knotting the ponytail & draping around it makes for a perfect combo for any special occasion.

At first glance, this bun may appear to be just a regular braided bun. Not so! If I try do Bug’s hair in a bun, it still is a bit “knobby” for me. By that, I mean, I prefer braided buns that lay closer on the back of the head rather than being like a weird “knob” protruding off the back of her head. And so by knotting the hair in her bun it gives it a cooler texture and allows me to arrange the hair where I want it so that it isn’t so much of a “knob!” You could certainly do this with a braided bun, but with her length of hair this is how we did it.

Step 1 – Section out hair on the front left side of the head

Make a side part on the right side of the head. Then part down to the left ear.

Step 2 – Make a ponytail

With all the hair remaining, secure all the hair into an off-center ponytail in back.

Step 3 – Divide ponytail into 3 sections

Step 4 – Tie knots in each section

Starting in the left section of the ponytail, divide it in half and pass left over right as if you are tying your shoe. You will be making loops or “chains” as you knot the hair. You can make these as big of knots or as small as you wish.

Once you reach the end of each section of hair, secure with a rubber band.

When I wrap the rubber band around for the last time, I like to keep the tail at the bottom looped up in the rubber band. It makes a little loop at the end and sort of “traps” the hair and makes for less loose hairs poking out all over.

Step 5 – Arrange the knots

Starting with the left section, carefully arrange it up and around the top of the ponytail. Secure with bobby pins as needed. Don’t pull it too tight or the knots don’t lay as nicely. Just arrange these to look the way you think is best.

Next take the middle section of knots and place it as you like. I laid this section down more toward the right side of ponytail base.

Lastly, take the section on the right and wrap it under everything to make things look a bit more symmetrical. Bobby pin as needed.

Step 6 – Make a braid

Once your knots are secured on the back of the head, braid the section of hair that you parted out in step 1.

Step 7 – Pull on edges of braid to make it looser & wider

Be sure to secure the end of your braid with a rubber band once you’ve gotten it to the width you want.

Step 8 – Drape the braid over the knotted bun

With a few bobby pins secure the braid on top of the knotted bun. Continue wrapping the braid around the right side of the bun and tuck the ends of your braid into the bun and secure with a few more bobby pins.

FINISHED!

That’s it! You can add accessories as needed to dress this up even more if you wish. This is great for church, or even a fancy occasion. If you wish to leave off the braid in front and add a more intricate look with the knots – check out our Knotted Pony Updo we did on Bug way back when we first started our blog!

Get this gorgeous looped updo in less than 10 minutes! Perfect for weddings, formal dances or any special occasion.

I know it’s been a while since we’ve posted a tutorial in video format, but the stars aligned for us and we’ve got one for you today! I did this pretty updo on Bee for church recently and it took me about 8 minutes to do. I work faster if I’m not talking so technically it should have taken me less time! With wedding season on its way this is ideal for the bride or even the flower girl.

You’ll need plenty of bobby pins for this style (and hair pins too if you have them). I did her hair after her bath so her hair was damp which helped alleviate fly-aways. You can use some gel or pomade if you aren’t working with wet hair.

Step 1 – Make a ponytail

Step 2 – Wrap small sections of hair around fingers

Step 3 – Gently push wrapped hair off fingers

Step 4 – Secure loop with bobby pins as needed

Step 5 – Repeat steps 2-4 until you run out of hair

Hope the video helps and you’re able to use this for some formal occasion you have coming up. Or better yet — get all prettied up so you have an excuse to go out! Don’t forget to share the love by hitting the social media buttons below!

This style is fabulous if you're growing out bangs or just want to keep the hair out of your face but still want it down in back. Best part is it's quick & easy!

Despite the windy & cooler weather we keep having, Bug continues to want to wear her hair down but doesn’t like it falling in her face. So even though she does not have bangs, this would be a great style if your daughter is growing out her bangs or if you just want to keep the hair out of her the face but still have it down on the sides and in back.

This is a great style for school morning’s when you don’t have a lot of time and it can be done even if you don’t have Topsy Tail. This is also another great style for a toddler or someone who has a lot of short baby hair up front.

To be quite honest, I think our flipped ponies – or pulled through ponies (whatever you may call them) turn out better when I don’t use a Topsy Tail. I think because we didn’t have one for so long I just got used to doing it the cheater way! You can watch our video to see how we flip a ponytail without a Topsy Tail! I did, however use one for this hairstyle.

Step 1 – Make a small ponytail

Right up front in the middle of the head, part out a square and make a small ponytail.

Step 2 – Make 2 more small ponytails

On the left and right of that center ponytail, part out 2 more small square sections of hair & make ponytails. Don’t part clear down to the ear. You want them to be by the temple, but not much further down.

Step 3 – Flip the ponytails

Using a Topsy Tail or our ponytail flipping technique, pull those ponytails through and flip them!

Step 4 – Part out 2 rectangular sections of hair

Make the middle part for these 2 sections right behind the front middle ponytail. And make sure to follow the parts back from the temples on the left and right sides. You may want to temporarily hold them with claw clips to keep the hair divided out.

Step 5 – Divide middle ponytail in half

Half of that front middle ponytail will go to the left, and the other half to the right & will be added into those sections of hair you parted out in Step 4.

Step 6 – Make another small ponytail

On the right side, add the front right ponytail and half of the front middle ponytail into this section. Secure it all with another rubber band.

Step 7 – Repeat Step 6 on the left side

We turned the ends of her hair under with our flat iron and we were done.

FINISHED!

That’s it! Easy peasy & keeps the hair out of the face oh-so nicely!

Adding a fun chevron pattern to a ponytail is an awesome way to dress up a regular old ponytail. Check it out!

This pretty style is one that is so simple but makes a regular ponytail look fab! Bee wore this when we were out running errands one day and we had several people stop to take a peek! We just love this! I keep waiting for chevron to be a thing of the past, but it keeps popping up all over – so why not include it in a hairstyle!?

Obviously this is nothing hard, but here’s what we did. And this can be done on just about any age or any length of hair as long as you can make a ponytail!

Step 1 – Make a ponytail

Step 2 – Wrap the rubber band (optional)

You can watch our hair wrapped ponytail video HERE.

Step 3 – From each side of the ponytail section out a piece of hair

To keep these sections of hair a bit tidier, I misted them with a bit of water to keep the fly aways down. Pull a piece from the left and the right and bring to the front of the ponytail.

Step 4 - Join the pieces together

With a small rubber band, join the 2 pieces from the sides so it lays on top of the ponytail. Be sure not to include any hair from the main ponytail. You can make this style funner by using a variety of colored rubber bands so that the color makes the design sort of “pop.”

Step 5 – Flip the mini-ponytail

This is really optional, but we tucked the end of the mini-ponytail up and over the rubber band to “flip” it – which twists the the 2 small sections of hair that wrap around the sides of your ponytail. So the picture above is with the pieces just joined together and the picture below shows it once it’s been flipped through.

Step 6 - Repeat steps 3-5

You can do this as far down the ponytail as you like. We did 6 different sections and used light & dark purple rubber bands. Be sure that you do not include any other mini-ponytails as you work your way down. They are all separate ponytails that float on top of the main one.

**TIP: As you get further down the ponytail it might help to cross the sections of hair behind the ponytail first before joining them in front. I found it helped direct the hair where I wanted as I got toward the bottom. **

Here’s the 2nd mini-ponytail after it has been flipped through and given the more twisted look.

FINISHED!

We love that this is yet another fun way to jazz up a normal ponytail. It’s great for a school day and has been even nicer for containing a ponytail on these windy Spring days.

Be sure to share this awesome style by using the little buttons below! We appreciate all the love we can get!

If you're looking for some pretty, but not so complicated hairstyles for Easter, we've got a nice little round up for you. Check them out!

I had good intentions to get new Easter hairstyles posted, but between painting our house and trying to put it back together, major school projects (as you read this we are probably at the regional history fair!) and other life happenings, I haven’t had time to get our new hairstyles uploaded. For some reason I’ve been drawn more to a bunch of Bee’s toddler hairstyles lately and so I thought I’d share a round up of a few of my favorites that would be perfect for Easter.

These pretty styles can also be used if your daughter is going to be a flower-girl, or for any other special occasion. Most of these she wore to church so they are great for that too! With most of these styles her hair was just past her shoulders, so your daughter doesn’t need a ton of hair to make these work.

The links to all 5 of these pretty styles with a few additional pictures are below this first image. Just click on the title of each style & it will take you to the hairstyle.

#1 – Ponies & Ribbons Headband

This would be great to do with ribbons that match her Easter dress. It’s such a simple style but the ribbon dresses it up so nicely. You could even try running some thin lace through instead. That would give it an even fancier look.

This one has got to be one of my all time favorites. Her cute little face helps too though!
