A while back we shared a fabulous faux hawk on Instagram. We had several requests asking how we did it. I actually thought we'd already shared a tutorial on this, but looking through all our tutorials, apparently we hadn't! In the past we've created hairstyles that have incorporated a faux hawk element, but not just a "full" faux hawk style! So today we're sharing how we created this fabulous faux hawk! The size of this faux hawk can sort of depend on the length of hair you're working ... continue reading...

Dutch Braid Messy Bun Fauxhawk
Where did the time go? Seriously can't believe it's already September! Since Bug cut her hair & donated it a couple months ago, we've had fun doing some different styles on her that aren't necessarily "typical" of what she'd normally wear. I guess it also has to do with her getting a bit older as well. It's fun to mix things up once & a while! This style worked great on her since messy buns "done our way" work better in shorter hair. I'd say if her hair were a little bit shorter ... continue reading...
Braided Pull-Through Faux-Hawk
For the past many months, I've seen countless pictures and tutorials for a cool hair technique some call a "pull through braid" (see the picture below we posted on Instagram months ago long before Bug cut her hair.) It's been done in only a ponytail as we've done below, and others have created the style starting at the crown and adding hair by sections working their way down the back of the head to create a similar look. But we've switched things up a bit adding some "real braids" to the "pull ... continue reading...
Messy Side Swept Faux-Hawk
This cool style is unlike any we've ever done but I totally love it! I did it with her hair totally dry and so the fly-aways and messiness are more prevalent than normal - but that's what adds to this style. It can be done on shorter hair or long hair which is a plus! This tutorial isn't overly complicated, it was just a bit time consuming. I think it took me about 15-17 minutes, so I sped up the video to show you the highlights of the style. Step 1 - Make a small ponytail off-center ... continue reading...
Easy & Edgy Braided Style | Teen Style
Happy New Year! Crazy that it's already January, and my kids are back in school once again. Be sure to check out our Look Back at 2015 video from last week. There might be a few styles you missed throughout the year or ones you might want to try again! We hope your holidays were wonderful and are ready for a new tutorial! This one is great for teens and older girls - or anyone wanting a bit more of an "edgy" braided style. This style is inspired by a style I saw on CSI: Cyber several ... continue reading...
20+ Topsy Tail Hairstyles for Any Age
Since creating our Messy Side Swept Faux Hawk, I've realized how many different styles we've created over the years using "flipped ponytails" or by using our Topsy Tail. Today I thought it'd be fun to share a round up of styles we and others have created using a Topsy Tail (aka making a flipped ponytail or pull through, as I've also called them.) In case you don't know what a Topsy Tail is, it's simply a little tool that helps pull hair through and "flip" it. For years we actually didn't ... continue reading...
