If you’ve followed our blog for a while, it should be no secret, that my girls tend to get “big haircuts” from time to time and then donate their ponytail to help make wigs for people who need them. Well, it’s happened again. Bug decided to cut her hair for a second time several weeks ago. So we’re excited to share our short video with you today and show you Bug’s new haircut.
But first — if you entered our Summer Giveaway – the winner has been chosen — Congrats Monica! If you’d please contact us asap so I can get your mailing address and we can work out the details for all that fun! If I don’t hear from you w/in 48 hrs. I’ll pick a new winner.
Bug cut her hair off in January of 2011 when she was half way through 1st grade, and this time she just finished 5th grade. She’s excited to go back to school in the fall with a new look.
She cut about 12 inches off back then and because her hair wasn’t as long as it was now, it sat just above her shoulders once it got evened up. We even discovered some cute curl hidden in there once it was cut off. But it didn’t take much time before it was weighed down again by length and the curl was only evident underneath.
Out of the blue, about a week before school let out, back at the end of May, Bug informed me that she wanted to cut her hair and donate it again. The girls were in desperate need of a trim, but I hadn’t anticipated her wanting it “chopped” again. I’ve got to admit, it’s always a bit hard for me to let them cut so much off – but it’s their hair so it’s their choice. I’m more attached to their hair than they are apparently! 😉
From a center part down to the tips of her hair, it measured about 28″ long. Crazy! Her hair is fairly wet in these pictures, that’s why it looks so dark.
She debated about going really short again like the first time, but because she’s learning to do her hair these days, she opted to not go quite as short, so she’d have more to work with as she’s learning to do things in her hair. So the day after school let out, we headed to my sisters to have it “chopped!” Here’s where she wanted it to be cut – but of course once it’s cut off, things have to be evened up a bit so even more length is lost.
So here’s our fun video I put together of the actual cut and with pictures of her AFTER it’s all done! Enjoy!

If you’re thinking about donating your hair, be sure to check out THIS post where we share helpful tips as well as organizations where you can donate. If you want to watch the other girl’s haircut videos you can see them HERE. It looks like this makes it 3 consecutive years that one of them has donated their hair. I’m so proud of them!
Comment below and let us know what you think of Bug’s “new look.” We’ve been having fun figuring out what we can “still” do with her hair now that it’s so much shorter. It always takes me a bit to get used to it, but she loves it!

Awesome job donating your hair. That’s great! I’ve done it many times and my daughter donated her first time at age 4. Please consider donating to ChildrenWithHairLoss.com It’s a wonderful organization out of Michigan. Locks of love does not have a good reputation for hair donation. Thanks.

Thanks so much! That’s awesome that you’ve been able to donate as well. We actually didn’t donate it to Locks of Love. We’ve only done that once and since then we’ve donated to different places each time. We actually donated to CWHL this time! Still waiting to get a little certificate or something that talk about sending! 🙂
