Today’s style combines a couple fun techniques and is one that’s great for sports or a day when keeping your hair contained is the goal (no pun intended!) This style is also one that is great on a windy Spring day! We haven’t done a style using these long knots in quite a while, so I’m loving the combination of these knots and braids. Watch our video to see how it all comes together.
Step 1 – Part out a rectangular section of hair on top of the head from each temple back to the crown
Step 2 – Starting near the forehead, section out a small amount of hair with a part that goes from left to right in the hair from step one
Step 3 – Divide this small section of hair in half
Step 4 – Cross the right section over the left section, then pass the piece of hair now on the right side around to the front and pull it back through the hole you’ve created.
Step 5 – Take the tail on the right and pass it around the front again and through the hole so it returns to the back of the knot
Step 6 – With the tail on the left, pass it around the back and through the hole back to the front
Step 7 – Pull gently on the tails of the knot to cinch it down tight to the scalp
Step 8 – Repeat steps 3-7 behind the first knot, parting out a small amount of hair and creating another long knot
Step 9 – Create as many knots as desired on the top of the head. We created 6 long knots.
FYI — I just want to let you know these types of knots can create quite the kinks or funky looking curls after you take them out, so when I do styles using these, I always do them on a day when I know the girls will be washing their hair that night! That way they are “erasing” the craziness that these create in the hair!
Step 10 – From the crown, create a part down to the left ear and move remaining hair down in back, out of the way
Step 11 – Begin a French braid near the face. Add hair to the bottom or left section of the French braid from the hair below, but when adding hair to the top or right section, only use a tail from the knots.
Step 12 – French braid back until you no longer have tails from your knots to incorporate into the braid. Then continue to braid a regular 3 strand braid until you run out of hair & secure it with an elastic.
Step 13 – Repeat steps 10-12 on the right side of the head and secure that braid with an elastic
Technically you could be done with the style here if you desire, but we wanted all the hair contained, so we took the style a bit further.
