I know these things are nothing new – in fact I stumbled up on the above picture a while back (sorry I can’t remember where) but as you can see – these cuties have been around for ages – before there were cameras and even lovelies like Princess Leia and J Lo have sported these darling braids! So we did these on Bug recently and she looked sooo dang cute I thought. We love to do just regular old Pocahontas braids fairly regularly – so it was fun to just change things up a little bit. I didn’t set them as far back as Princess Leia has in the above picture, or as far forward as the funky model chick in the top left picture! We just pulled them straight up and over so it looked like a braided headband across the top of her head!
To switch this up a little I did a zig-zag part smack in the middle of her head from the very front clear to the nape of her neck. I made it a bit closer together zig-zag on the top of her head and made it a bit wider apart on the back of her head. You can pull the hair smooth and tighter like we did or leave things a bit looser and messy – depending on your preference.
Once you’ve done your braids, simply pull them up over the top of the head – and depending on how long the hair is, pass the ends past each other and back down the other side. Secure the braids where ever you need to with bobby pins. If your dd’s hair is extremely long, you can wrap them clear around so you’ve got a full wreath of braids around her head – but we aren’t that lucky at this point in time!
I know this looks all screwy on top – but it really wasn’t! Her hair is just long enough for the ends to pass each other – but because they are narrower at the end of the braid I had to mess with it a bit to get things to lay right!
These are quick & easy and a fun way to switch up regular ol’ braids! Just be sure to use plenty of bobby pins to keep this nice & secure on top of the head!

It’s funny, i tried this and my hair is so long that i had to loop the ends of the braids down around the back of my head, it almost made a crown!!!!!! My hair is alos really thick so it made a really thick headband!!!
