Since doing our Rolled Up 4 Strand Braided Bun it got me curious to see the 2 different 4 strand braids side by side. So if you’ve thought the round vs. flat weren’t much different … they kind of are! So here’s a comparison! I think it’s cool that they look so different, but use the same number of strands!
And since we did our Rolled Up 4 Strand Braided Bun I’ve finally had time to put together our video of how to do a simple flat 4 strand braid, so here is how we do it.
And just as a refresher, since my picture above is comparing a round or 3D 4 strand braid to this flat one, if you don’t know how to do the round 4 strand braid here’s our video on how to do the round one that I previously posted. Or if you want to see this round 4 strand braid with ribbon down the middle, click HERE for that!
Let me know if you have any questions! Even if you haven’t tried both types of 4 strand braids – which one is your favorite!? I’m having a hard time deciding! I guess it depends on the style they are used in! For all our styles where we’ve used 4 strand braids click HERE!

Both are gorgeous, but I prefer the flat, cause it looks, like, harder to do, and perhaps it will get more compliments! lol Both are awesome, really, it’s hard to decide!

Love the flat braid!

Hi I can’t get the four strand braid to not twist. Driving me mad! Help?!
Becky says
Sometimes that happens to me too. I’m not sure why it does that because it’s not all the time. I assume it’s the way I’m holding/pulling the hair as I’m doing it. Sorry I don’t have a magic answer.

Thanks. Have discovered if the ponytail is wet it works almost perfectly! Amazing!

Oh good. Glad you got it to work. Maybe that’s why mine work sometimes vs. others. Never paid attention if it was wet or dry though! Hope that helps on the one w/ribbon for you too!
Esther says
Yep it was the ribbon one I did today 🙂 so pretty and so quick to do. Thank you

Wow! Awsome! But in the picture of the flat, how do you get her hair to look so shine and thick?
Love your blog!
