I can’t believe that June is already over and the 4th of July is this week. Our summer is just flying by. And with the 4th of July right around the corner, we thought we’d share a quick style that’s not too over the top this year! If you haven’t checked out our other styles from 4th of July be sure to do so because we’ve got several awesome ones!
For this style, you’ll obviously need ribbon. You can do any combo of patriotic colors that you want or have on hand. We happened to have all 3 colors, red, white, and blue and so we went with that. See step 2 on prepping the ribbon or watch our video!
Step 1 – Make a ponytail
We made a side ponytail on the left so it could drape over her shoulder and be seen more than if it were just on the back of her head. We also made a fun side zig zag part on the top right side of her head.
Step 2 – Braid ribbon together
Cut 3 pieces of ribbon to be a bit longer than the ponytail you are working with. It’s better to have more ribbon than not enough! Take the 3 strands of ribbon and create a regular 3 strand braid with them. Tie the ribbons together in a knot at the top and braid until you run out of ribbon. Secure the end with a knot or a small elastic.
Step 3 – Add braided ribbon to the underside of ponytail
You could secure the braided ribbon with another elastic if you want, but I just pulled a little through the elastic that was already securing the ponytail.
Step 4 – Make a 4 strand braid
Divide the hair into 3 sections. Draw the braided ribbon up into the ponytail to be position #2 of your 4 strand braid. If you need a bit of help with 4 strand braids, you can watch our 4 strand braid video.
Step 5 – Secure the end of the braid with an elastic
Step 6 (optional) – Wrap any remaining ribbon around the bottom of the braid
As you’ll see in the video, I had a bit extra even after wrapping it around the bottom of the ponytail, so I used some scissors and carefully cut the excess ribbon off.
FINISHED!
