I’ve got to admit that I’m totally crushing on today’s tutorial! Can that be said about a hairstyle! 🙂 Back in July I’d been “experimenting” with an elegant hairstyle on Bug that would be perfect for homecoming, prom or even a wedding (obviously not for her since she’s only 9!) and of course , because I didn’t take step-by-step pictures or make a video, the hairstyle turned out fabulous. I shared the picture on Instagram as well as our FB page and had many requests for a tutorial, so a few weeks later I shot a video showing how we made it. It turned out pretty close to how I did it the first time, but as with most of my updo’s – there isn’t always “exactness” to them, and so they probably never turn out exactly the same twice … but that’s ok. That’s what makes hair so fun!
The above picture is when we did it on Bug the first time in her pretty white dress from her baptism last year. (Yes, it still fits and she refuses to let me pack it away!) This next picture was when we recreated it for the video:
This style is one that’s a lot easier to watch than to try put it in words, so here’s our video tutorial on how we did it:
I love this style because it’s not just on the one side of the head, it wraps clear around and is gorgeous from every angle!!
Hope you love this one as much as we do. We’d love to see pictures if you use this for one of your special occasions. So many people complimented Bug when she wore this style, so it’s a sure to please!

Hi,
This style is so pretty, I m surely going to try it on my daughter. She has very Long hair, almost 25″! Can u suggest some styles that can be done using donut bun. I tried making a ballet bun, but her hair is just too long to,be folded in. When I try to braid it, the braid becomes longer than the bun So I cannot hide it in either.
Help!!!

I’m so glad you like this one. Sounds like your daughter’s hair is about as long as Bee’s hair currently. When you say using a donut bun – are you talking about the round little thing you can put in your hair that looks like a donut?

LOVE THIS! Have been a fan of yours for quite some time! You are so incredibly talented! You have opened up a whole new world for me! I’ve always loved doing my daughter’s hair. I also have three daughters the youngest of which has hair >25″. And I was running out of cute hairstyles the longer it got. I too hate buns that stick really far off the head, so your way of doing messy buns is wonderful! It’s so quick and easy and looks so much better than what I was coming up with. I tried your spiral fishbone yesterday and my other daughters loved it and all of her classmates complimented her which always makes you feel good! Doing my youngest daughter’s hair every morning is our one-on-one time which I’m sure you know can be hard to catch with more than one child (I have a little boy in the mix as well). Back to this updo, it is definitely my favorite so far and I am going to try it tomorrow because I just can’t wait for a special occasion, I’m too excited! Thank you fir sharing your wonderful gift of creating beautiful hairstyles! My daughters and I LOVE browsing through all of them picking the ones we want to do. You are amazingly gifted!
