Ok, so I’m totally unsure as to what to name this one — any ideas, send them my way! I realized since I did the video on “how to do a fishbone braid” I hadn’t done anything with them, so lately I’ve been playing around with them and have done a few things – and this is one of them. I took pictures along the way of this do, unsure where it was going, so I apologize for them not being the best. In the end I kinda liked it, but at the same time I’m not so sure! I know many people have said fishbones take so long so I did just little sections of them so it wasn’t as bad.
Begin by parting the hair from ear to ear like you are making a 1/2 pony. Then divide it into 3 sections and make 3 pony tails with them.
Start a fishbone braid with the ponytail in the middle and braid it down a couple inches. (If you can’t remember how to do a fishbone braid – go watch my video here.
On the outer ponytails don’t braid them – you’ll just need to tie it off with a rubberband as if you were doing 1 section of a puffy braid. To get the rubber bands to eventually match up & be even you’ll need to pull each pony over kind of diagonally to almost touch the rubberband on the fishbone braid and once you are almost touching the rubber band in the middle that’s where you should put your rubberband on that ponytail. Does that make sense? Play with it if you need to to get the rubberbands to be even. Once you put the rubberband in and let the pony hang down again it will look uneven like it does in my picture, but once you join them to be braided all together, they’ll be even.
Then pull the right ponytail over towards the middle one and fasten together with some type of clip so the rubber bands are side by side with each other like below. Then take 1/2 of the hair from the middle ponytail and pull it out of the way (it will be combined with the left plain ponytail later.) Proceed to take the hair from the right ponytail and the 1/2 section of the middle ponytail combining them to make a fishbone braid with the hair. Braid as far down as you like, but I just did a couple inches. Tie it off with a rubber band.
Then do the same thing with the left side. Use a clip to pull the left ponytail over to the middle one so the rubber bands are lined up again. Use the remaining hair from the middle ponytail and combine it with the hair from the left ponytail. Braid that section down so it ends even with the fishbone braid on the right.
In the end, this is what it should look like:
Here’s a view from the side. I just put a few little clips in to cover the rubberbands. You could accessorize however you’d like.
I barely curled the ends of her hair, but I think it would have looked a lot fancier if I’d of put more curl in it – but alas, her patience was gone & so this was it!
Sorry the above pic is a bit dark, and although my eyes are tired, I’m thinking the one below is a bit blurry – but either way you hopefully see how it should look!
