Tomorrow is Earth Day and in years past, I’ve done posts where I’ve “recycled” old hair posts. But this year I’ve been thinking how Earth Day is about being kind to our planet and making improvements to ensure Mother Earth is taken care of. And of course, because this is a hair blog, it got me thinking about how we can be kinder to our hair!
I get asked on a fairly regular basis what we do to keep the girls hair so healthy. My main answer is we don’t use a lot of heat in their hair. These days with so many different hair tools out there – from curling irons, flat irons, curling wands, texturizing irons, hair dryers, etc., if you are constantly using them in your hair, you are damaging those gorgeous locks of yours. I know I’ve said it before, and you’ve probably heard it elsewhere, but it really is true!
And while we aren’t necessarily anti-heat in their hair, we definitely don’t use a lot of it. After they shower, we let their hair mainly air dry, and depending on the time of year, we’ll use our hair dryer to finish the drying process before they go to bed. I’ve never been keen on them going to bed with a wet head! And as far as flat irons, curling wands and the like, we use those very little.
Our favorite way to get curls is by using Curlformers. It’s been a while since I’ve shared any pictures of the girls and their curls. If you’re not familiar with Curlformers, these videos are a bit long, as I didn’t have as good of editing capabilities back when I made these, but they’ll show you our process of putting Curlformers in, and then removing them and the results.
These are some recent pictures we’ve taken as we’ve used Curlformers. I love that we can leave their hair just down with the gorgeous curls or even use them to finish off a ponytail.
Here’s my oldest from straight hair to gorgeous curls. We parted her hair straight down the middle and she wanted the curls left alone once we were done. These lasted for a couple days and then with the very last of the curls we created THIS Easy Gorgeous Updo.
I love that Curlformers work in extra long hair or even in short hair. They’ve got a couple different thicknesses of curlers, but we prefer the “spiral curls” size. They create our favorite look of curl. Bee especially loves when we put them in and we just slip in a headband and she’s good to go. She loves to bounce around the house during and after the curlers are out! And while the girls normally sleep in their curlers, Curlformers does have Softhood Hair Dryer Attachment (see bottom right picture below) that we use from time to time when we don’t want to wait for the next day. These are great for speeding up the process – but obviously, you then are using heat! Through next week, these are even discounted on Amazon – so snag a Softhood Hair Dryer Attachment today! These work great if you’ve ever done an oil treatment on your hair too!
And here’s the latest fun we had using them in Bug’s hair. We did a Dutch French braid back into a ponytail, and then with her wet ponytail, we added Curlformers. It turned out perfect!
So if you’ve been toying with the idea of getting these, you really should! They create amazing curls every time. So whether you want curls quickly or can wait until the next day and sleep in them, these are our way of getting curls without the damage you can get from curling wands and the like. We usually use our Curlformers Extra Long & Wide curlers, and as the girls hair has gotten extremely long we love that they have Super Long Spiral Curls which can be used in hair up to 29″ long. If you prefer a wider, looser curl, they have Extra Long Barrel Curls, or if you’re looking for a really tight curl that is like a telephone cord (if you remember those! 😉 ) they also make Corkscrew Curls. No matter which curl you prefer – you truly can’t go wrong!
If Curlformers aren’t in the cards for you at this point in time, check out our post on No Heat Curls from Socks. The curls aren’t as uniform and full as Curlformers, but you at least aren’t using heat. Oh, and for the record, this is not a sponsored post! We just love Curlformers and that we can get such amazing curls without using heat. 🙂 You can check out all our other styles using Curlformers HERE.
So in honor of Earth Day – we not only challenge you to be kind to our Mother Earth (plant a tree, use re-usable bags at the grocery store, have a neighborhood cleanup, take a fast shower to conserve water, etc.) but we challenge you to be kind to your hair. Don’t use heat on your hair tomorrow! 🙂

I LOVE curly hair but where would you get the hair curlers?

You can buy them directly off their website http://www.Curlformers.com or from Sally Beauty Supply stores or off their website as well. hth
