Technically these could be called “Half French Braided Pocahontas Braids, but that’s a quite the mouthful! Ever since we did the spin-off from the Lauren Conrad braids, we’ve had fun incorporating the half French braid into styles any way we can. These turn out so pretty in the end and adding the half French braid to the top of them just adds a fun twist to “normal old braids!”
Step 1 – Part hair down the middle
Step 2 – Part out small triangle
Starting on the right side, as close to your middle part as possible, section off a small triangle of hair and start plaiting a braid. Start making a French braid, but just add hair to the top. If you need a bit of help with this, check out our other posts we used this braid in, here and here.
Step 3 – Keep braiding
Continue making a half French braid, curving with the head until you get past the ear…
Step 4 – Make a regular braid
Once you are past the ear, stop adding hair, and continue on down making a regular 3 stranded braid. Secure the end with a clear rubber band.
Step 5 – Make another braid
With the remaining hair on the right side, comb it back to start the “Pocahontas braid.” Use the braid you’ve already created as the middle section for this braid.
Step 6 – Secure braid
Once you’ve braided down as far as you can go, secure the end with another rubber band.
Step 7 – Repeat on left side
You’re done!
I love the look you get when you have a braid within a braid. It always looks so much cooler!
We just love this style! It’s one we get lots of compliments on & is also a perfect one for those hot summer days!
