This wonderful ‘do was submitted by Devri, one of my fellow hair obsessed readers, (those are my husbands words – not mine or hers!) and she sent me pictures of her beautiful daughter and this hairdo they call “The Heart.” Because, yes, it resembles a heart!
So, begin by doing an upside down flipped ponytail – if you need a refresher go back to my Cascading Waterfall post.
Because Bug’s hair was freshly washed, I ratted her pony tail a bit to make if fluffier and give it some “oompf” and then smoothed it out on the top layer so it didn’t look too ratty! I don’t think Devri had to do that, because her DD’s have amazingly thick hair. Devri tucked the ends of the ponytail up into the rubber band to secure them, but because I got the ponytail a little too tight I just used bobby pins to secure the whole thing. Do whatever works best for you. I just took small sections starting on the left and bobby pinned them up underneath like this.
Here’s a side view of Devri’s daughter. She said once she had tucked the ponytail ends up into the rubber band she anchored the side to secure it a bit more. Devri said these pictures were taken 9 hours after she’d originally done her DD’s hair, and it stayed in lovely.
So once you’ve secured the ponytail from underneath – fan it out a bit on each side to give it a fuller look and then hide bobby pins to secure it to the left & right sides of the head.
As you can see, her DD’s hair is a lot thicker than Bug’s. Even with the ratting it still seemed a bit “saggier” than I’d of liked. I’ll know for next time to rat it a bit more. Also looking at this pic I didn’t fan it out as much on this side.
Here’s a view of Devri’s DD from the top…
And here’s Bug’s from the bottom. It kind of looks like I didn’t get everything secured on the left side, but I really did and it did hold ok. She did some wrestling with Goose later in the day, so it didn’t hold up to that, however!
And here’s a silly picture of her DD from the front. Isn’t she just darling?!
And this is Bug’s “I’m humoring you mom & letting you take all these dumb pictures of me – Are you done yet?” smile! ….
Thanks Devri for your great idea and pictures. I love this one & will definitely do it again. If anybody else has anything they’d like to share, please feel free to e-mail me.
