I had initially planned on posting my whole hair fiasco post for April Fool’s Day — to let ya’ll get a good laugh in for the day, but I ended out posting it earlier due to other “issues!” But just in case you forgot what happened to me – this was the problem at a glance:
I realized I forgot to tell a story in that post about another “neat” hair issue I had growing up. Before my mom had cut my hair boy short – when I was 6 or 7 years old I had long hair like Goose used to have. It was often parted down the middle and neatly pulled into pony tails or braids of some sort – and of course hairsprayed to keep it clean & tidy looking!
But before I tell you my story – there’s a fun contest I’m announcing at the end – so read the whole thing!
Well one day I was over playing at my friend Jamie’s house and her mom informed me that it was “quiet time/nap time.” So I could either A: go home, or B: take a nap/rest during their family quiet time. Well, naturally, I didn’t want to go home, so I chose option B. I don’t remember falling asleep – but I guess I must have due to the events that I’ll share in a moment. Once quiet time was up, we played happily the rest of the afternoon and then I went home.
After my family had had dinner I went to get ready for my bath. On this day I had sported pig tails and so I asked for help getting the rubberbands out of my hair. As my mom was taking out the rubberbands, she started getting clumps of my long hair coming out too. She had a look of horror on her face because she could not figure out why long pieces of my hair were in her hands (and it hadn’t been pulled out by the rubber bands.) She asked me if I’d cut my hair. Of course I hadn’t. I loved my long hair. Well, upon further questioning she decided it must have happened while I’d been at Jamie’s house earlier that day. So my mom rushed to the phone and called my friend’s mom. After drilling Jamie about the afternoon’s events – the truth was discovered. I had fallen asleep and she had not. She’d found a pair of scissors and had gone right along one side of my part and cut right up along the side of it – pretty much from the nape of my neck to the top back part of my head. My mom was furious. But what could she do. (Besides not allow me to play with Jamie anymore sniff sniff!)
Anyway, because of how my hair had been parted and the way she’d cut it – I had a mini-mohawk of short tiny hairs that stuck straight out from the center of my head — which meant no more center parts for a long time – until those hairs grew out enough to reach back over into rubber bands that were on the sides of my head! I had to have my hair pulled straight back into a pony tail or in some fashion that my hair wasn’t parted in the center to show my mini-mowhawk (and of course w/o hair blogs back then, there wasn’t a whole lot of options!)
So, now you’re probably wondering why I’m telling you more of my horrendous hair stories? I was kind of hoping you might be up for having a bit of fun with me. Since I’ve been doing this blog, I’ve had many of you write me and tell me that your DD has cut her own hair, or a school mate has taken the sheers to your DD’s ponytail or something along those lines. Or heck, maybe you’ve tried to cut your husbands hair – or your own and not had such great luck. Do you see where this is going?
So since I’ve “aired my embarrassing haircut moments” to the whole world – I thought it would be fun, in the spirit of April Fool’s Day to have a little contest….
So here’s the Dealy-oh …
Your mission – should you choose to accept it —
is to send me your pictures of those haircuts.
Whether they were accidental or just a haircut gone bad. I don’t care. And it can be anyone – boy, girl, you, spouse, friend, whomever …. jut of hair cuts gone wrong. I’m not wanting to make fun of anyone here – I would never want that – especially if it’s of your DD – but I want to know that I’m not alone in my hair trauma that I’ve experienced over my lifetime!
So here’s how we’ll work it. Send me your pictures between now 3/6/09 & Wednesday 3/25/09 (to give you that don’t have a digital camera time to dig through those piles of pictures or scrapbooks & scan the pictures in!) Keep in mind – don’t send me the picture if you don’t want it posted. Depending on how many I get, I’ll post them all on Thursday the 26th. And I will give everyone out there a chance to vote for their favorite bad hair cut. Or if there’s a ton, I’ll have my panel of judges (aka The Girls) pick their fav’s and we’ll let you choose from those.
On April 1st I will announce the winner. I’m still working on the prize – but maybe I’ll give you a choice on that too – and have a couple options for you. (Because obviously if the haircut that wins is your husband’s he’s not going to want bows or flowers – but he’d probably give them to your DD) But once I’ve decided on prizes, I’ll let you know.
SO – do you want to play?! Then what are you waiting for ?? Go dig through those pix and send them my way. This is all meant to be some good clean fun so I hope you’re willing to join me in it!
