We’ve got another cute Valentine’s Day hairstyle for you today. Back when we created our Christmas Tree Loop Braid I’d thought about doing the same technique with a heart for Valentine’s Day, and so I’m excited to finally share this one with you!
It’s pretty simple, which as you know, is my favorite kind of hairstyle! Watch our quick video and we’ve got more pictures below.
Step 1 – Take hair from the left and right temples and draw it backward joining them together in the center back of the head
You aren’t parting from ear to ear creating a half ponytail, you want this to be a smaller amount of hair for this heart
Step 2 – With a Topsy Tail, flip the ponytail up and over
When you flip the ponytail, if the smooth hair above the ponytail gets all messed up, simply take the handle of your Rat Tail Comb and smooth things back down.
If you’re still needing a Topsy Tail, you can buy one HERE. These come in handy for almost every Valentine’s Day hairstyle because of all the ponytails that have to be flipped to create the heart shape! And recently they’ve been over 40% off, so grab one today! 🙂
Step 3 – Divide the ponytail into a left and right section
Step 4 – With the section on the right, begin a regular 3 strand braid
Step 5 – As you braid, go back and gently pinch and pull the right side of the braid to create a loopy edge
Don’t pancake or flatten the braid – you want the left side of the braid to remain tight and the right side of the braid to have a more lace-like/looped appearance, thus creating the “doily” look.
Step 6 – Braid down until you know the heart will be the size you want and temporarily clip off the end of the braid
Step 7 – Create a braid with the left section of the ponytail, and pinch and pull the left side of this braid as you go
Step 8 – Once your braids are complete, form the braids into the top part of your heart and secure them with bobby pins as needed
Step 9 – Join the ends of your braids together and secure with an elastic to create the pointed end of the heart
Step 10 – Adjust heart shape as needed and mist with hairspray if desired
FINISHED!
This style reminds me a bit of our Ribbon Laced Heart we did years ago. The ribbon creates the “doily” or lace look on the edge instead of pinching and pulling on the braid like today’s style.
