If you are always in a hurry to get out the door in the morning, this quick & easy braided combo style is for you! You can do this with any combo of braids, but we opted for a basic fishbone braid and a regular 3 strand braid for our combination. This style can be done on any age which is also great. For a younger girl you’ll probably want to keep things nice and tight and even do it with wet hair to keep things neat & tidy. For someone older, keep it loose and pancake things to give it a bit messier & chunkier look.
Here’s our quick video and below that are finished pictures & step-by-step instructions! If you can’t view the video here on our blog, view it HERE on our YouTube Channel.
Step 1 – Divide out hair from ear to ear, but don’t make a harsh and exact part
Step 2- Smooth hair back as if going to make a half ponytail
Step 3 – Divide this hair into a left and right section and begin a fishbone braid
Watch our Fishbone Braid Tutorial HERE if you need help with those. Be sure to hold onto things tightly so things don’t loosen up too much by the ears.
Step 4 – Do about 20 stitches (10 from each side) of a fishbone braid
Step 5 – Next cross a big section of hair from the far right edge of the right side of your fishbone braid and cross it into the middle
Step 6 – Now you have 3 sections of hair to create a regular 3 strand braid
Step 7 – Do about 6-8 stitches of a regular 3 strand braid
Step 8 – On the last stitch of your regular 3 strand braid, take a big section from the edge of the left side of your braid and pass it to the right side
Step 9 – Then add the middle strand of your regular 3 strand braid so it joins back into the left side of the braid. Now you will be back to having just 2 sections to braid with.
Step 10 – Now start making a fishbone braid again crossing small sections back and forth creating the X pattern of a fisbhone
Step 11 – Braid approx. another 20 stitches of a fishbone braid and secure the end of the braid with an elastic
Depending on the length of hair you are working with, you can repeat this pattern as many times as you want. With her medium hair we just started and ended with a fisbhone braid with the regular 3 strand in the middle.
Step 12 – Adjust braid as needed – pancaking it if desired
Step 13 – Optional – Curl the ends of the hair
