Ok, for starters … I know you saw this over at Hair 4 My Princess — but this is a bit different. I seriously am not copying her! And as my disclaimer, I, in fact e-mailed her about this when I saw her post & because she is such a nice person, she said she wouldn’t mind if I posted mine too. I watched this movie last month and after we’d watched it & I’d freaked out about this funky hair do… I made my husband go frame by frame in slo-mo (he is so patient with me!) so I could actually take pictures of it. Yes … can we say o.b.s.e.s.s.e.d.??!! Anyway, like she said over at H4MP there is nothing online – except a little video clip of her wearing this do, but you can’t see it from behind …. so you’ll have to settle for my crappy pictures off my old fashioned non-HD non-flat screen TV! (gasp – yes, I still have a big ol’ box!)
So this is the hairdo that Piper Perabo sports if you haven’t seen Beverly Hills Chihuahua ….
And here’s our version. Like H4MP mentioned Piper’s (Rachel in the movie) hair has a bit more of a messy, disheveled look too it. But oh well!
Here’s a few other shots & angles that I got off my TV. Sorry they aren’t the best quality but hopefully you get the idea.
So I’ll spare you all my many photo’s of step by step for the first part since you can also see them here … but here’s a few of mine.
I parted her hair from ear to ear. Then parted her hair down the middle. Then parted those 2 sections into 2 — making 4 sections total. Then I twisted and made some chunky cornrows. If you want to see how I do mine go to this old post. I initially secured them with a bobby pin, but at a later step I pulled them out.
Oh, and btw – the cornrows that are on the top I rolled downwards, and the ones closest to the ears I rolled upwards. So they kind of roll towards each other. I did this different the first time I’d attempted this, but after looking at all the pictures I took ,I think they did Piper’s hair several times too … because sometimes they were all rolled 1 direction, then other times they were rolled towards each other. No matter … in the end, do what you want!
Repeat in all 4 sections making a total of 4 cornrows in the front of the hair.
Secure all 4 of them in the back with a rubber band in the middle of the back of her head. At this point I pulled out my bobby pins that had been helping them not to unwind.
Then this is where mine differs a bit ….
Pull the ponytail from the cornrows up out of the way. Then section out a bit of hair that is just behind the part that goes from ear to ear.
Do this on both sides – bringing both sections of hair in to meet in the middle.
Join then in the middle with a rubber band.
Bring the ponytail that you’d put up out of the way -back down and it will cover the rubber band.
Then divide the ponytail into a bunch of twists. Piper’s kind of look like braids, but at the same time corkscrews, so I went with corkscrews! Do a bunch of them and secure them somehow so they don’t come undone while you’re doing the other ones.
Then tie them off with a rubber band. I got mine just a little lower than I’d of liked so it doesn’t hang even with the hair that is pulled back behind it but oh well.
She kind of liked this one. I thought it was cool, but her hair seemed a bit thick for the twists up front, so that kind of bugged me. Although it looked ok on Piper … maybe cuz she’s an adult!
And to dress it up a little, we tried a few flowers in it to cover up the rubber bands. This makes it more noticeable that my corkscrews should have ended just a little higher up.
Anyway, there you have it. A second look at Beverly Hills Chihuahua hair – ok not the Chihuahua but Piper Perabo hair — whom btw has since chopped her hair quite short! Thanks for playing! (And thanks Kori (Hair 4 My Princess) for being gracious enough to be ok with me posting this too!)
