With summer in full swing, that obviously means warmer temps. For my girls that means they don’t want their hair down on their necks as much because it makes them too warm. For my 12 year old, the answer to that problem equals ponytails! And of course, I’m always looking for fun ways to jazz up a regular old ponytail, and today’s hairstyle does just that! No major skills are needed to create this Weaving Twist and Ponytail hairstyle, which is an added bonus!
Here’s our quick video and be sure to keep scrolling for more pictures of the finished hairstyle. If you have issues viewing the video, click HERE to watch it on our YouTube Channel.
1- Comb all the hair back into a ponytail and secure with an elastic or ponytail holder.
We added a zig zag part off on the right side of her head, and then made the ponytail off-set to the left side. Watch our video on how to create a zig zag part if you’ve never done one!
2 – If desired, wrap the base of the ponytail with hair to hide the elastic.
There are several ways you can hide an elastic with hair, but here’s how we Wrap a Ponytail with Hair.
3 – Near the base of the ponytail, section out a small amount of hair to create a rope twist.
If you need help or a refresher on how to make one, check out our Rope Braid/Twist HERE. Use water or product to help keep this hair clean and without fly-aways.
4 – Once you are almost to the end of the hair, temporarily secure the end of the twist with a clip or elastic.
5 – Move it out of the way for the moment to expose the hair directly underneath.
6 – Section out a smaller section than you used for the twist, directly below where the twist starts.
Having this section damp with water or product will help keep this hair smooth and held together which is important to the look of this hairstyle.
7 – Place your left hand’s thumb and index finger through the left side of the twist. Pull this straight hair from below through the twist and out onto the right side of it. Pull the straight hair tight so it hides in the twist on the right side.
8 – An inch or so down the twist, put your right hand’s thumb and index finger through the right side of the twist. Pull the straight hair through it to the right side. DO NOT pull this hair tight on the left side so that it leaves a loop on the left side of the twist.
9 – Move down about another inch and place your left hand’s thumb and index finger through the left side of the twist. Pull the straight hair back over to the left side of the twist. Once again, do not pull the hair tight, but leave a loop on the right side of it.
10 – Repeat this pattern down the twist so the straight hair weaves and winds back and forth from the left and right sides creating loops on each side of it. Try space things evenly so there is about the same amount of twist between each loop.
11- Once you run out of straight hair to weave through, secure it to the end of your twist with an elastic.
12 – Adjust the loops if needed and mist with hairspray if desired.
FINISHED!
Here’s a fun look up close look at things with it pulled off and away from the ponytail. My daughter said it reminded her of a snake or something weaving in and out of her hair!
