Hey guys! We’re back today with a great hairstyle for windy fall weather. With school back in session and the temperatures dropping, that always means wind where we live! Bee doesn’t like her hair completely down very much since she ends up with so many knots after a day at school. This wrapped twists and 4 strand braids hairstyle keeps the hair nicely contained and free of knots! It’d be great for sports as well for that same reason. This wrapped twists hairstyle is actually inspired by one from our archives. Years ago, we did THIS Pigtails & Wrapping Twists hairstyle on McKayla. I’ve always wanted to make a video tutorial for that one since it was just a picture step-by-step tutorial. So the beginning of the hairstyle starts like that one, but we add onto it since Bee has much more hair than McKayla did back then!
Watch our video to see how to create this entire style. If you have issues watching it here on our blog, go HERE to our YouTube Channel.
1- Make a center part from the forehead back to the nape of the neck. Then part from ear to ear parting across the top of the head.
2- With the 2 sections in the back behind the ears, draw the hair into low ponytails – 1 on each side. Secure the ponytails with clear elastics.
3- Move to the hair on the left side that is in front of the ear and near the face. Smooth all the hair and simply twist it in toward the head. Twist the hair tightly and twist it so it passes underneath the ponytail on the left. Continue twisting until it reaches the ponytail on the right side.
You could do a rope/twist braid here if you like, but i simply twisted all the hair in one section, so it truly is “just a twist!”
4- With the twist underneath the right ponytail, secure it to the base of the ponytail with another elastic.
5 – Repeat on the right side of the head with the hair in front of the right ear. Twist the hair back until it is tightly twisted and reaches the ponytail on the left side. Secure the twist underneath the left ponytail with another elastic.
6 – If desired, hide the elastics by wrapping the base of the ponytails with a little bit of hair. You could also just cover the elastics with hair accessories if you want.
There are a couple different ways you can hide the elastic with hair. We wrap our ponytails with hair & secure them like THIS.
You can stop here and be done with the hairstyle, or continue on and make braids, twists, or whatever you desire to have in the ponytails.
This is where we stopped back when we did this one years ago on McKayla and how it turned out. For more pictures go HERE for that tutorial.
7 – In each ponytail, create a 4 strand braid. We added a rope/twist braid down the center of each of them to add some more detail to the braids.
This means you will have 3 sections of straight hair, and 1 strand that is the rope braid. The rope braid should be the 2nd section from the left. By having it in that position, the twist will run right down the center of the braid. If you need help with these braids, check out THIS post where the main hairstyle has a 4 strand braid with a twist. It might help you see it slower!
8 – Secure each braid with an elastic when you reach the bottom.
9 – If desired, add a little curl to the hair below the elastics.
