Rolled Up 4 Strand Braided Bun

We made this style with a flat 4 stranded braid instead of our normal 3D or rounded 4 strand braid we’ve used a lot in the past.  We’ll get a tutorial up in the near future on how to make a “flat” one if you are unsure.  We rolled the braid up into a bun – similar to the “Rolled up Braid” style we did a long time ago.  We used that same technique for our Halloween Spider hairdo as well.  You could probably do this style with just about any type of braid or twist that you prefer.

I’ve done this a few different times on Goose so pardon the intermixed pictures.  This works great on her long thick hair.  If you have Spin Pins, those work great to hold the main bun portion of the style in place.

Step 1 – Make a 4 Strand Braid

I just started at the base of the neck and braided – but if it is easier for you to start with a ponytail first, feel free.  Secure the end of the braid with a clear rubber band.  Be sure you don’t braid too far down because you want that “tail” for part of the bun.

Step 2- Roll the braid

Divide the tail of your braid in half so there is part of it sticking out each side.  Start rolling the braid up onto itself until you reach the head.  Secure the bun to the head with bobby pins.  Be sure to leave those ends poking out on the sides.  You’ll secure them in the next step.

Step 3 – Divide the ends that are sticking out

Starting on the left side, I divided the hair sticking out on the sides into 3 or 4 smaller sections.  Having damp hair for this helps – or use some product to cut down on fly aways.

Take each small section and form a loop with it.  Secure it with a bobby pin.

Step 4 – Repeat on the right side

Step 7 – (Optional)  Add a headband

Add a headband or other hair accessory.  This fun one is from Gimme Clips and we just love the 3 little individual bands that come across the top but tie as 1 in the back.  I even use these from time to time because they are so soft & nice to wear.  You can’t tell you’re wearing them which is my favorite part!
