We’re back with another cute French braid hairstyle for you today. Technically it’s a Dutch braid, but you can do this a couple different ways I guess! This fun Peek-A-Boo French Braid hairstyle is awesome for tweens and tweens, but really it’s great for any age. It’s a bit edgy too, which is always cool for my 12 year old! It seems like these small box/Dutch braids are popular right now, and so we really love how this one turned out.
Here’s our video, and if you have issues seeing it, go HERE to view it. Below are step-by-step instructions and more pictures of the beautiful finished hairstyle.
1 – Part out a long narrow rectangular section of hair on the top center of the head.
2 – Temporarily secure all the remaining hair down in back with a ponytail holder or clip.
3 – With the hair from Step 1 create a small Dutch braid that runs right down the center of the head.
If you need help with Dutch braids, check out THIS post on How to Dutch Braid on Yourself. You could also do a regular French braid with this section as well. Need help with French braids? Go to THIS French Braid post. Or if you really struggle with either of those, you could just start a regular 3 strand braid near the forehead and slick the rest of the hair down below it. But the cool part of this style is this Dutch braid I think!
4 – Once you have passed the crown and can no longer add hair to your Dutch braid, just continue with a regular 3 strand braid until you reach the end. Secure the braid with a clear elastic.

5 – Next, part out hair to create a half ponytail. Smooth hair from the left and right sides and gather it in the center of the back of the head. Do not include the braid in your half ponytail.
6 – Secure the half ponytail with a clear elastic on top of the braid. The braid should hang underneath the ponytail.
7 – A few inches below the elastic from your half pony, wrap another clear elastic around the ponytail.
8 – With your fingers, make a hole in the center of the hair between those 2 elastics. Draw the braid from below through the hole so it now lays on top of the ponytail.
9 – With another elastic, wrap it around the straight hair of the ponytail a few inches below the last one. Make another hole through the center of the hair between these 2 elastics. Bring the braid through that hole so it is now on the back side of the ponytail again.
10 – Repeat Steps 7-9 all the way down the ponytail until you run out of hair. The last time, the braid should end up underneath the ponytail.
11 – Secure the braid and ponytail together with one more elastic so they stay together.
