Today’s hairstyle is one that I know we’ll be using a lot, especially during the hot summer months. This summer and sports braided hairstyle is one that will hold up great for just about any outdoor activity you have planned, including swimming. Just don’t forget to put sunscreen in your parts to prevent them burning. Due to all the braids, it will keep the hair nicely contained which is a must when it comes to sports and rough kid play! This is our version of a hairstyle we saw on Instagram from @pr3ttygirl79 from several months ago. The top part of the hairstyle resembles a braided heart, and Bee thought it sort of looked like a butterfly. But no matter what you think it looks like, it’s one that is totally cute and will hold up great!
This style is fairly simple so we’ve sped up most of the video. You can make this your own and add different kinds of braids, twists, or any combination you choose. You could even wind the braid at the bottom up into a bun in you wish! The sky’s the limit!

– Part the hair from from the center of the forehead back to the crown.
– Then part down from the crown to each ear. Comb these sections and secure both of them with elastics creating small ponytails.
– Divide the ponytail on the left into 2 even sections. With the right section, make a regular 3 strand braid that reaches to the center back of the head. Temporarily secure that braid with a clip.
– With the ponytail on the right side, divide it into 2 even sections. With the left section of that ponytail, make a regular 3 strand braid that also reaches to the center back of the head. Temporarily secure the end with a clip.
– Join these 2 braids in the center back of the head, but make it so they form a bit of a V shape. Secure the braids together with a colorful elastic. You don’t want the braids to be secured tight and straight across.
– Next, with the remaining half of the ponytail on the right side, create another regular 3 strand braid. Braid all the way to the very end of the hair and temporarily secure the end.
– With the hair below the elastic in Step 5, create another regular 3 strand braid. Braid all the way to the very end and temporarily secure the end.
– Over in the last section of hair in the ponytail on the left, create another braid. As before, braid to the very end and temporarily secure the end.
– With all remaining hair down in back, comb the hair into a ponytail that is low and at the nape of the neck. Add all 3 braids from above into the ponytail and secure everything together with a colored elastic at the nape of the neck.
– Divide the straight hair in the ponytail into 3 even sections. Lay 1 braid on top of each section. Create another regular braid with all the straight hair and braids. Be sure to keep the braids laying on top of the straight hair as you braid so they show through the braid.
– Braid down as far as you can. Remove any clips or elastics that were temporarily securing the ends of the smaller braids. Secure all the hair together at the bottom with another colored elastic.
